The Universe Provides

On Tuesday, the little gym that I am working out at celebrated its Grand Opening. Our small town needs this fitness centre and I see a new year filled with women (and men) of all ages getting their groove back by moving their bodies. Yours truly won the door prize which was a one month membership!

After two weeks of easing into the whole exercise thing again, I am now beginning to increase the times I go to the gym from three to four workouts per week. Come January 1st, I may have to let my one and only vice go...my morning coffee with cream and sugar. When I was pregnant with our daughter, I would imagine her thighs were made form Haagen Dazs ice-cream and her cheeks from avocados. I am thinking my lovely, soft Buddha belly is created solely from the cream I put in my coffee. I have never been one to bash my imperfections as I am always reminded that my 5"1 frame managed to conceive and grow an entire person within it. Then it went on to give birth to that person and keep her alive for a year on milk produced by my body. However, one morning, not too long ago, I made a comment about my saggy breasts while hanging out bra-less with my husband. He quickly replied with, "Those saggy breasts kept Meredith alive for a year." Interesting how our terms of endearment change over the years.

As I begin week 3 on this 4-month journey, I am proud of my efforts so far and I look forward to the transformations that should hopefully start to take place soon.

  1. This week I bought some 1% milk because I've gotten used to drinking homogenized (which I buy for the kids)...so, I poured 1% on my oatmeal, but cream in my coffee! I agree, the remainder of my belly is likely made entiredly of coffee cream. May have to reduce my intake too! Way to go! (btw that cup of coffee makes me want to rush over to your house NOW! for my own cup!)

  2. My view is if you're going to do something, do it right! So on my trip to the grocery store yesterday, I bought the full fat, organic egg nog, rather than the thin, watery stuff they try to sell as "low fat." Enjoy your coffee and cream Julie - if you eat relatively healthy, I doubt the little cream/sugar every day has any effect on buddha! :o)

  3. Way to go, Julie! Two weeks in is a huge accomplishment and will only get easier as time goes on. I am proud of you for challenging yourself and wish I could join you at the gym!

  4. Congrats on winning the one-month membership. Little changes at a time will keep this project manageable. You can do it and I look forward to the results (from someone who never though she could quit coffee and did, I'm sure you can stop having cream and not miss it). So proud of you!

  6. Cream in my coffee is one thing I could never ever live without! It brings me so much joy! I 'eat clean' 90% of the time but cream in my coffee is a necessity! I don't think there is anything wrong with your one vice - unless of course you are drinking 5 cups a day!! Hold on to it and enjoy it to its fullest each day!!
